On this week’s edition of the Non-League Goalmouth...
Editor at Large Matt Badcock and Executive Editor Jon Couch reflect on their favourite moments from the 2025/26 Non-League campaign.
The duo discuss topics such as the thrilling National League title race between York and Rochdale, and Macclesfield’s dream FA Cup run, as well as their stars of the season, including managers like Jim McNulty, Stuart Maynard, Luke Garrard and Craig Mahon, and players like Abdul Abdulmalik, Ollie Pearce, Zak Brunt and Gus Scott-Morris.
The managerial merry-go-round is in full flow. Former Gateshead manager Rob Elliot has taken up a new role in charge of Carlisle United, replacing Mark Hughes.
Meanwhile, Paul Wotton has landed the Kidderminster Harriers job and Southend United’s search for a new boss continues following the departure of Kevin Maher.
Finally, the pair look ahead to this summer’s World Cup in North America, focusing on players and coaches with Non-League roots and their journeys from the grassroots game to football’s biggest stage.

In this week’s edition of The Football League Paper Podcast...
Matt Badcock is joined by Football League Paper Chief Writer Chris Dunlavy and John Lyons, Football League Paper Editor, to talk through all the latest in the EFL.
The trio reflect on a dramatic week of play-off final action across the EFL, as Hull City secured promotion to the Premier League with a late winner against Middlesbrough, while Bolton Wanderers and Notts County enjoyed their own Wembley success to book their spot in the Championship and League One, respectively.
The 'Spygate' saga continues to develop as Southampton owner Dragan Solak has thrown his support behind manager Tonda Eckert, despite the controversy surrounding their dismissal from the play-off final. Eckert also released a public apology to Southampton fans, in which he took full responsibility for the scandal.
Following their play-off final defeat to Bolton, Stockport County manager David Challinor has stepped away from his role after five years in charge at the Hatters.
Finally, the guys take a look at the relegated sides returning to the EFL, namely West Ham United, who announced that they are continuing with manager Nuno Espirito Santo for the upcoming 2026/27 Championship campaign.

Matt Badcock is joined by Football League Paper Chief Writer Chris Dunlavy and John Lyons, Football League Paper Editor, to talk through all the latest in the EFL.
The trio delve into the big news of the week, which saw Southampton expelled from the play-off final over the spying scandal which has dominated the days leading up to the 'richest game in football'.
Hull City will instead face the newly-reinstated Middlesbrough in the final, and we look ahead to that game, plus the League One and League Two play-off finals also taking place at Wembley over the bank holiday weekend.
